The greasers and socs might seem very different, but who they are is very much the same. Their main differences are external. Greasers like to wear tight white shirts, jeans, and leather jackets. The socs wear stuff like collared shirts and shorts. The greasers like to have slicked back long hair, socs prefer short hair. The one main difference between them is that the socs are rich and the Greasers are more middle, or low calss people.

If I were Johnny I would be freaked out! Even though it was intended to help out a friend, I do not know if I could get on with my life knowing I had killed somebody. If I were Johnny, I would quit being a greaser and dedicate my life to helping others. That would be the only way I could bring my self to peace. Still, It would be extremely hard to move on when you know you had ended a man's life.
Hi Billy it is Jonathan.
I think your response is great. I would feeel the same as you, freaked out. If I had killed someone I would take a long time to get over the fact that I killed somone. I don't exactly agree that I would quit being a greaser because the greasers were Johnny's only family and if i lost my only family I don't think I could get handle much very well espiaclly murdering someone. Helping others would be a great way to bring yourself to peace because when helping others you know you are doing a good thing and after doing a really bad thing it would be a great way to recompense.

I think what the author was trying to get at when she said "Johnny did not have that look he usually had" she meant to say that johnny was changing. He was maturing quickly as he was going through a lot. He says that he had seen and learned a lot from sixteen years on the streets. He also says that the things you learn and see on the streets are not things that you particularly want to see. He says most of the things you learn are not really things you wanted to learn after sixteen years on the streets. When the author said that quote that is about what I thought that she intended to get at. - Billy
Very interesting, but there was fire going on. Seems like you didn't read that part. I think she meant that saving children is not exactly what greasers are doing most of the time. It is not how Johnny thought of himself - as a hero. ~Mrs. Best
Hey Billy it's John. I really liked how you said he was maturing as he was going through a lot. I agree that he has learned a lot and maybe even too much while he was growing up on the streets. i would be horrified if i had to learn and go through all that on the streets at such an early age.
This is Ryan, Billy I agree with you about Johnny seeing and learning a lot from 16 years on the streets. Also, I agree that most of the stuff you would learn and see on the streets is stuff you wouldn't want to learn and see. I also agree that Johnny is maturing. I think this maturing is due to all the stuff he has been through including: getting beaten so bad he almost died, getting beat by his dad, killing a person, and running away. Overall you had a very good paragraph.R

If you really don't like somebody, fine just be nice. Eventually, if you are nice to them maybe they will change. Another thing you can do is try to get to know them better. Because if you do this long enough, you and that person will not only enjoy learning about each other, but also find something you both love. After that you could be better friends than you ever thought possible. This plays out in Outsiders because although the Greasers and Socs look and act very different, and live in totally different lives. They are very much the same. -Billy
This is a great response. I hope realize it is just as true today as it was in the 60s. ~Mrs. Best
Heyy Billy,
That was very well said and I liked how you explained your thoughts. I also responded to this question and had the same idea of spending more time with them. Like you said, if you spend time with them, you might learn some stuff about them that you did not know. You could become friends with this person.
Good job,
Mitchell
